Brief description of site: The site is on the West side of Chiusi Mountain under the tallest part of the hill. The rock is very obvious and visible from the base of the hill at the catholic seminary. Furthermore the rock is directly above the seminary perhaps two thirds of the way up the hill. The site looks west and has a very impressive view taking in Shire River, Lake Malombe, Lake Moleni (south) and the hills on the escarpment opposite. Brief description of art: The faint paint has not adhered well to the surface, there is also sand and dust damage. Originally it was a good frieze.
Brief description of site: The site is on a boulder on the lower slopes of Chongoni Mountain's west side. Leaning slightly providing limited protection to one surface but no shade or shelter. Ravine on either side makes access to the rock difficult. View into trees. Brief description of art: The images are on a painted surface that is open to some rain washing and therefore they are thus faded. The images include: 6 circles and stretched circles with multiple internal vertical divisions, 3 circles with single internal vertical divisions, 2 circles, 1 vertical sausage shape with single internal vertical division and a set of parallel vertical lines. The images are all applied by finger in red.
Brief description of site: The site is on a large boulder high on the steep central slopes of Chongoni mountain's west side up above MAL-CGN2. It is secluded amongst boulders and thick vegetation and is arduous and has limited access. The left end of the boulder is recessed and now overgrown and used by animals, it could have been used as a habitation site. Fair view out over plains to west. Brief description of art: The art consists of 8 stick-like spread-eagled motifs applied by finger (?) in white. Each image has different limb arrangements. The rock is interesting in that it is a grey in colour but has long curving natural lines of white within it. The images are between two of these. This site thus has natural snake-like meanders similar to those painted at other sites.
Brief description of site: The site is in a recessed shelter formed where two small boulders support a large covering boulder. It is situated on the lower slopes of Chongoni Mountain's west side. The shelter is protected, shaded and large enough to contain 3-4 people. Looking into trees. Whole shelter much blackened by recent fire. Brief description of art: There is little flat surface available. What there is almost entirely blackened by soot and remnants of two images can be made out. One is a spread-eagled design and the other a quadruped decorated with black dots. Both executed in daubed white.
Brief description of site: The site is on a boulder immediately north of MAL-CGN 8, on the lower slopes of Chongoni Mountain's west side at its base on the west side is a small flat inset surface. This provides protection for the panel of images but there is no shade or shelter for people. The site is merely a protected surface. Since the images are low down and are not widely visible. Brief description of art: The art consists of a set of horizontal parallel lines that are applied by finger in red.
Brief description of site: The site is on a large boulder on the lower slopes of Chongoni Mountain's west side. The painted surface is overhung by small lip there is no shade or shelter. Looking into trees. This site has to be passed in order to get to the larger site of MAL-CGN6. Brief description of art: The art consists of 3 spread-eagled designs, a snake-like meander and a few filled circles in faded white daubed pigment. There are also two white filled schematized quadrupeds (probably nyau - njobvu).
Brief description of site: The site is on a large block of rock on the lower slopes of the western side of Chongoni Mountain. The site has 2 painted surfaces. On the west side there is a small overhang that protects a large panel of images but provides little shade or shelter. The second panel is on the south side of the large overhang and creates a pleasant inhabitable shelter with limited view and is concealed amongst trees. Brief description of art: Both panels have been extensively painted. The art consists of various spread-eagled designs, a quadruped, a snake-like meander and a concentric circle daubed white. These overlay numerous finger applied red designs. The red motifs include sets of parallel vertical lines, a circle with externally radiating lines, horizontal rows of dots, 3 half circles open at top with multiple vertical internal divisions and a large complex design resembling the form of a spider's web. As well as a single daubed white quadruped and many finger applied red designs. Motifs include: 4 circles with externally radiating lines, 3 grids, and numerous sets of vertical and horizontal parallel lines, a circle with a single vertical internal division and various filled circles. Significant variation in standard of preservation of red designs suggests that they have been executed over a long period of time by various different artists.
