Mphunzi VIII
Site
Brief description of site: A low boulder near the base of the south-east comer of Mphunzi hill. A wide overhang provides excellent shade and protection, ideal for habitation. Floor has extensive remains of small fires (modem) and whole shelter is soot blackened. No view, easily accessible.
Brief description of art: Much modem graffiti (some in oil paint). Originally a large painted panel, now mostly so badly damaged as to be unrecognisable. Most of what remains is smudged white pigment, some of which is clearly the remains of large spread-eagled daubed designs. A few red finger applied lines can be made out under the white.
Mthusi II

Brief description of site: The site is on a very large and impressive rock shelter (90m2) half way up western side of Mtusi hill. Would have made an ideal habitation site. Partially excavated by Mgomezulu in 1976. He found extensive evidence of usage including 4 short statured skeletons. The site is said to be still used for female initiation. Arduous but simple access with fine views to west.
Brief description of art: The art consists of many varied spread-eagled designs all daubed in white, the one on the ceiling is remarkable in size and has been repainted at least twice. Some of the images are heavily blackened by soot. At the left end of the shelter and there are a few red designs applied by finger including dots, short vertical lines, a concentric circle and a half circle open at top with single internal vertical division.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small boulder with a low recess at the base and is halfway up the western side of Mtusi hill. Below MAL-MTU2. There is shaded seating for 2 people with a limited view and arduous but simple access.
Brief description of art: The art consists of 3 sets of parallel vertical lines applied by finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a boulder on a flat area below the rocky upper section of Mtusi hill on the western side. The boulder leaning providing protection to surface on one side but no shade or shelter. Arduous access with a view limited by trees.
Brief description of art: The art consists of 2 circles with externally radiating lines joined by a horizontal bar. There are also 2 half circles with multiple internal divisions. All the images are applied by finger in red. The surface is poorly protected from washing by rain and there may have been more motifs now destroyed.

Brief description of art: The art consists of engravings of animals as well as humans.
Mukongoro-Ekoki I

Brief description of site: The images in this shelter are in two clusters which will be labeled as Panel A and Panel B. Panel A consists of three circular images. Panel B slightly 8m to the right of the site has a basic boat like image like UGA-NYE with images connected to the boat mage. All the images are painted in red.
Brief description of art: The site is on a Southward facing granite rock, on a large Boulder outcrop 12m wide.
