Brief description of site: A boulder on a low slope at the north-east comer of Nkuntha hill. Painted surface at entrance to recessed shelter formed by various boulders leaning into one another. No pictographs in shelter. Looking into trees and other rocks. Easily accessible. Brief description of art: Fire has been lit directly against painted surface causing most of it to exfoliate. All that remain are a few vertical lines applied by finger in red.
Brief description of site: The site is on a small boulder at the base of the east side of Nsana Wa Ng'ombe hill, sitting beside a field. Pleasant seat but almost no shade or shelter. Good view over escarpment edge to lake-shore. Easily accessible. Brief description of art: The panel is a small but packed panel of pictographs. Motifs include: circles, concentric circles with external radiating lines, circles with lines radiating from base only. Also large complex design composed of concentric circles joined by 3 horizontal lines divided like a grid. All applied by finger in red.
Brief description of site: The site is on top of the southern Soni Hill at the far East end. The site is on a large and obvious boulder right on top looking westwards. The site has views of Chingombe (?) and Namisalo plus the valley in front. The site would of made a good observation point perhaps for game viewing. It has pleasent shaded seating with little real shelter. Brief description of art: The art is of a very interesting design, all in red and would merit tracing. The site has a real lichen problem.
Brief description of site: The site is on the west end on a small hill South East of the main Soni Hill with the radio mast. The site is approximately two thirds of the way up the hill on the western ridge. It is under a moderately sized boulder. It is visible but not immediately obvious as a site. The site has extensive views to the North and West. Brief description of art: The images are of an interesting sequence of paintings. First there are central circles and then linear dark red ones over. There are dots i red and white.
Brief description of site: The site is on the east side of Nsunje Mountain, and roughly half the way up the mountain. The site is on the largest and most visible rock on the hill, lying under the North end of the main rock block of the hill.
Brief description of site: Small surface on a boulder a few metres up the hillslope from DE127. Similar in nature but rather better protected. Brief description of art: A set of parallel vertical lines, a half circle open at top with multiple rather uneven vertical internal divisions. All applied by finger in red.
Brief description of site: A leaning boulder surface at the back of a small platform area. Sited among a group of Large boulders near the top ofNthulu hill. Totally secluded, with fine views to the east. Access arduous and difficult to find. Brief description of art: A large panel of pictographs, all applied by finger in red. There is unusual variety in the motif forms including a number of complex motifs . A number of motifs are decorated with fine white dots. Some motifs are arranged around holes and depressions in the rock surface which become integral to the overall design. In one instance, below a large complex design, it looks as if the hole has been intentionally enlarged. Rock is slowly crumbling. Various painted sections have clearly flaked off The rate of flaking seem quite slow, the amount of missing sections of pictographs is enough to suggest considerable age for the paintings at this site.
Brief description of site: A large leaning rock-face a few metres above MAL-NTU4, near the top of Nthulu hill.Provides shaded seating and a limited amount of shelter. Brief description of art: A large panel of pictographs, all applied by finger in red. There is unusual variety in the motif forms including a number of complex motifs (see Photo 20). Brief description of site: The site consists of two panels which I shall categorize A and B. Site A faces eastwards. Brief description of art: The images in panel A consist of circular motifs (4) measuring 25cm wide, relatively small and very faded. They are also very difficult to see. The images are located on the underside of the roof, of the shelter and can be seen lying on one's back. The images are in red monochrome. Panel B has one single image measuring about 14cm in length and 21cm wide. The image is located in a wash area and is in red monochrome.
