Mwela West LXXVI
Site
Brief description of site: The site is on a section of rock face protected by various high overhangs. The main images are on the corner and are only visible from a few meters away. There is nice shaded seating for one person and limited shelter. The site is near the edge of the hill, and looks into trees. The site is easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of three animal depictions. The first image is filled and very faded and executed with a fair degree of naturalism, the species is uncertain. The second and third miniatures are rather similar (but slightly more detailed) to those found at ZAM-MWW113 and ZAM-MWE22. Each image is less than 4cm in length. There is also a large filled arrow-like design. All the images were executed by a brush in red. There are also two sets of parallel vertical lines and various dots and rows of dots applied by a finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a protected section of a large boulder with a small rock shelter near its base. The low shelter could provide shade and shelter but it is too small for any habitation. The site is at the edge of the hill looking outwards into the trees.
Brief description of art: The art consists of sets of parallel vertical lines, horizontal rows of dots, a circle, and two curving lines with short lines radiating upwards from them. All the art is applied by a finger in similar red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small boulder with a square cut into one comer about 2m in size. The back wall is well protected with a rock shaded seat for one person in front of it. The site is on the edge of the hill looking into the trees. The site is easily accessible but also easy to miss.
Brief description of art: The art consists of a large filled animal depiction of which the front half of which has been washed off. The species is uncertain. There is also a small animal depiction species uncertain which is very faded, seemingly of a long legged style found also at ZAM-MWW42, ZAM-MWW50 and ZAM-MWE66. All the images are executed by a brush in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small surface (1m2) on low rock that is hidden in maze of passages between rocks on the southeast side of Chama hill. The low rock in front of surface provides a pleasant seat for the image execution-viewing. There is no shelter, no view and is very hard to find. The site is not easily noticed even when nearby.
Brief description of art: The art consists of various horizontal rows of dots.

Brief description of site: The site consists of two small friezes, hidden in maze of passages between rocks on the south-east side of Chama hill. Frieze A is a poorly protected section of a rock face, clearly visible to anyone walking along this passage. Frieze B is directly opposite, under a low overhang, almost at ground level and visible only to those lying on the ground. Neither have shelter or views.
Brief description of art: Frieze A contains faint remains of animal depictions, one above the other (ZAM-MWW29), probably antelopes. All filled, applied by brush, in red. The heads extend off the side of the rock face and the body is given prominence and is exaggerated in size. Frieze B comprises a few dots applied by finger in dark red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a protected surface in a boulder at the edge of the maze of passages on the east side of Chama hill. A low protected rock in front of the surface provides a pleasant seat for executing or viewing the images. The seat and surface are protected by a broad overhang. There is shelter for one or two sitting, no view and easily accessible. The site is only visible close by.
Brief description of art: The art consists of a circle with a single vertical division and a few dots.

Brief description of site: The site is on a protected section of a tall rock face beside a narrow stream valley. There is no shelter, a limited view into the nearby spring area and it is easily accessible but hard to find. The site is visible to those walking alongside of stream area, though the area in front is littered with low boulders.
Brief description of art: The art consists of various lines and dots. The highest image is 3.7 metres up and well out of reach.

Brief description of site: A large boulder leaning at 45° about 10m east of ZAM-MWW39. The images are on a leaning surface which is rather hidden by a rock in front of it. The site looks into rocks and trees and is easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of multiple rows of dots and some curving the images are applied by a finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a large boulder on the edge of a hill with two very poorly protected surfaces. The site looks into trees. There is no shade, no shelter and the site is easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of two concentric circles, various overlapping circles smudged together, dots in three finger triplets, and a few vertical lines all applied in red by a finger. There are also three sets of parallel lines in red applied by a brush.

Brief description of site: The site is 8 meters south-west of ZAM-MWW41 on a smaller boulder but with a similar outlook. The surface is about 1m2 in size and relatively well protected by a low overhang. There is a rock in front of the surface that provides seating from which the images were executed.
Brief description of art: The art consists of three animal depictions, applied by a brush, in red. The species are uncertain. The images have very distorted features that are typical of exaggerated leg style also seen at ZAM-MWW50 and ZAM-MWE66. There are also a few vertical lines and dots applied by a finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a large boulder in centre of the hill, it is indented towards its base providing low but well protected surfaces. The site is among other boulders, the images can only be seen from nearby. There is pleasant shaded seating but no shelter and is easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of two small faint simple spread-eagled motifs in filled red, probably executed by a finger. There are also a few dots and short vertical lines executed by a finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small boulder a few meters away from the main rock area. The indented low section provides a small low protected surface. The site looks into trees. There is no shade as well as no shelter. The site is near a perennial spring.
