Nakapapula I
Site
Brief description of site: The site is on an overhang that is completely hidden by fallen rocks and it is actually difficult to enter the shelter. The site has no outlook, but the outlook from the overhanging rock has a view for miles. The only way to enter the shelter is by crawling through a narrow rock slit in front of the painted slab. The site is very small but well hidden and protected.
Brief description of art: The art consists of two main shades of red and purple, of which the purple is generally above the red. The images are extremely high and a ladder of some sort must have been used. The images include semi circles, vertical lines, a large group of dots in parallel lines.
Nachitalo II
Site
Brief description of site: Climb to the top of Nachitalo Hill and find the saddle near the centre. The first site is a large boulder overlooking the south side of the saddle. The site is around the corner to the south west down about 10m, this site is roughly 40m away from the first site.
Nachitalo I
Site
Brief description of site: Climb to the top of Nachitalo Hill and find the saddle near the centre. The first site is a large boulder overlooking the south side of the saddle. The site is difficult to locate, there are many off tracks and it is best to find a local guide.
Brief description of art: Graffiti. The art consists of mainly finger daubed geometrics and notable figure lines. All the images are in a similar blood red colour. The panel is a very large painted area that is heavily vandalized and recording is of little value. The paintings not written over have been chipped away. There is one clear antelope head executed in delicate lines at the west end overlying the 'comet' figure.
Miyenje I
Site
Brief description of site: The site looks over a wide flatter area which turns into a steeper slope. The site is among a large number of small rocks stretching along the hill range. This seems to be the only real shelter. The site is not well hidden and good for long term habitation.
Brief description of art: All the images are in a similar red applied with the finger. Many of the images have been washed due to seeping water.
Des Valley Dam VII
Site
Brief description of site: The site is up a hill just before the summit, facing west southwest. There is no rich deposit and no artifacts were visible.
Des Valley Dam V
Site
Brief description of site: The site is on a boulder with a fairly big protecting overhang. The rocks lie on a small hill that is low-lying and surrounded to the east and the south by a southerly sloping plain. There is no deposit at the site. The ground to the left of the site/rock surface with images is hard and barren. No artifacts were identified on this surface it is very possible that the site was not inhabited. On a separate boulder in front of the main painted surface there is a panel with only one single image.
Brief description of art: Geometrics.
Des Valley Dam III
Site
Brief description of site: The site has a promising deposit with a dense concentration of stone tool making debitage. Scrapers and blades are identifiable, quartz (very clear) and quartzite (whitish/milky). Pottery scatter is also evident, few decorated pieces were identified in the past, but on this visit none were identified. A few pieces of large and crude stone tools (hand axes?) partially late ESA were also identified. A chert core was also identified. There are also upper and lower grinding stones on the floor of the shelter. The site has a similar position to ZAM-DES1 with its view facing south which is restricted by trees. The sight is a large shelter excellent for habitation. There are considerable signs that the site has been occupied for a long period.
Brief description of art: Geometrics. The main section at the west end of the shelter consists of a very large number of lines and circles. The art is quite faint and would merit tracing. The images are done in red and covered by white sediment that is forming over the art (salt and dust). The panel continues for perhaps 2m.
