Fwambo XI
Site
Brief description of site: The site is a large (8m2) protected rock-face overhung by lip adequate to protect rock but not large enough to provide shade or shelter. Part of rock dark grey in colour making pictographs hard to see. Facing into other rocks, despite size it is not widely visible. Easily accessible but rather concealed.
Brief description of art: 4 large animal depictions, 3 executed in outline, 1 filled. Filled animal has large exaggerated sized body and stick legs, rear section has been eroded, species is uncertain. Above its head are 2 half circles open at top. Other 3 animal are in similar style suggestive of single hand. 2 have prominent filled dewlaps suggesting eland as the subject. 2 are stooping in posture. 1 has lines across its neck and a long line running below the line of its back. All are applied by brush in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small sloping surface inset near the base of a boulder. In a passage among boulders with no view. Limited shaded seating but no shelter. Easily accessible.
Brief description of art: There is one single bat-like filled motif applied by brush in red. Very clear.

Brief description of site: The site is a moderately well protected surface protected by overhanging lip in boulder. Slightly raised up on a rock platform, looking outwards from rock area into trees. No shade, no shelter, easily accessible.
Brief description of art: 2 horizontal rows of concentric circles joined by parallel lines. Each row contains 7 concentric circles. All are overlain by massed vertical rows of dots. Applied by finger in red.
Fwambo XIV

Brief description of site: A high surface (over 3.5m above ground) on rock-face a few metres to the east of a large recessed shelter, probably better described as a cave. The cave is big enough to hold a large gathering of people (60?). Provides excellent shelter and must have been in regular use as a habitation. Floor scattered with pottery and worked quartz. Cave easily accessible but surprisingly well concealed.
Brief description of art: There is a single row of vertical lines applied by finger in red. Placed far higher than could be reached by any person.

Brief description of site: The site is a small surface inset into the side of a boulder. It is slightly raised up on a rock platform, facing into small valley area and then other boulders. Not especially visible but easily accessible.
Brief description of art: There are 3 filled animal depictions. All of the images ari in a similar in a style and suggestive of a single hand. All are porcine and probably represent wild pigs.

Brief description of site: The rock surface is far higher than could be reached by any person. Easily visible.
Brief description of art: The images are all very smudged. There are various lines and rows of dots. Applied by finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a relatively well protected surface on rock-face, positioned at edge of rock area but
facing into other rocks. Limited shaded seating beside painted rock but no shelter. Easily
accessible.
Brief description of art: There are 2 circles, a set of parallel vertical lines, a small vertical sausage shape with internal horizontal divisions, and 2 large areas of massed dots. All applied by finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a well protected surface under sizeable overhang. Pleasant shaded seating but the sheltered area is too small to have been habitation site. The surface somewhat concealed from view but easily accessible.
Brief description of art: A filled animal design with typical exaggerated sized body, species uncertain. Surrounded and overlain by many rows of swirling dots. All in similar shade of red.

Brief description of site: The site is on the surface in a passage way between two boulders on side of hill. There are almost only boulders in this section of the hill. There is limited shade and shelter. Fine views to north-west
towards Sumina. Relatively easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of a few horizontal rows of dots, applied by finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a large boulder which bulges out towards its top providing protected surfaces on
most sides. There is limited shade and protection. The site is situated just above base of hill looks into tops of trees. Only large boulder on this side of the hill and therefore stands out prominently. Easily
accessible.
Brief description of art: Boulder has been heavily graffitied by scribbling in charcoal. This has obscured most pictographs. Those which can still be seen include a set of parallel lines, a circle with externally radiating lines and a grid, applied by finger in white pigment. Also a vertical sausage shape with internal horizontal divisions, vertical lines and rows of dots, applied by finger in red.

Brief description of site: The site is on a small protected boulder surface at the base of the hill facing outwards into scattered boulders and trees. No shade nor shelter. Easily accessible.
Brief description of art: The art consists of a set of parallel lines, small vertical lines crossed by small horizontal lines, a concentric circle, and various horizontal rows of dots applied by finger in red.
