Brief description of site: The shelter is about 30 m in length, 10 m high and 5 m deep. It faces towards the east.
Most of the floor of the shelter is covered with large rocks. There is a large number of paintings in the site, scattered throughout the shelter in varying densities, including several high panels at the southern end. There is much superpositioning of paintings
(i.e., many paintings overly others). Preservation of paintings is variable.

Conservation action taken: Conservation
Preservation of the paintings is variable through the site. Low panels have been rubbed by cattle. Cattle are a serious problem in rock shelters because they rub against the shelter walls, physically abrading paintings. They also tend to stir up dust which lands on the rock wall and bonds with mineral salts coming through the rock, forming an opaque layer.
The higher panels have different, but equally serious problems. Mud swallows’ nests cover some paintings in the higher panels. Dassies are causing problems on some of the ledges, mostly because of their urine which is running over some painted surfaces.
A micro-organism, possibly an algae, is growing over the paintings, particularly in the southern side of the shelter. It is giving the paintings a dark appearance.
Recommendations
To counteract the existing conservation problems, and prevent future problems, it is recommended that the following measures be put in place:
Cattle should be prevented from entering the site as a matter of urgency.
Strangers should only visit the site with the permission of, and accompanied by, the farm owners.
Large groups of people should not be taken to the site; they will create excessive dust that will settle on and obscure the paintings.
Little can be done to counteract the danger posed by the swallows, dassies and algae.
Conservation needed: yes
