History
Brief description of site: The shelter is screened by dense vegetation and is very damp. The cave is between 1 m - 2.5 m high, 19.15 m long and up to 5 m deep with still further tunnels within. Lots of collapsed rock and rock very tabular, allowing for the formation of tunnels.
The shelter floor is extensive and over 1 m deep in places. It is, however, very damp and disturbed. There are grinding patches on the rock here and there and isolated stone tools of chalcedony but the dampness has destroyed any organic remains.
Brief description of art: The RSA HELIII rock-paintings are executed in the 'Classic' or older manner and consist of a single surviving panel 1.81 m x 0.58 m. There are the badly faded remains of 6 rain-animal - 3 in white and 3 in red. Around them is a very active Medicine Dance involving over 31 human figures. One human figure has 3 red arrows. One human figure claps such as is common at the dance. Interestingly, 2 red human figures appear to be walking on a thin painted red line. There is possibly one eland in this group.
