Background of the Recorder:L.G.A. (Lucas) Smits, (Groningen, The Netherlands 1931)
From 1962-1986 employed successively as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and
Associate Professor in Human Geography at the National University of
Lesotho in Roma, Lesotho. (Institution originally named Pius XII University College, later University of Botswana Lesotho and Swaziland, currently National University of Lesotho.) Extended study leave to do fulltime rock art research from January 1979 - December 1985.
From 1979 to 1986 Director of ARAL (Analysis Rock Art Lesotho) research
project at the National University of Lesotho. The ARAL project was
financially supported by WOTRO and Leverhulme.
