All of the rock art recordings on this collection were done by Victor Ellenberger and his Son Paul Ellenberger in Lesotho between 1930 and 1970.
Paul's grandfather, David Frederic Ellenberger, was a missionary in Lesotho in 1861. In 1882, Paul's grandfather from the mother's side, Frederic Christol, a missionary and a painter, arrived in Lesotho, and through the decades recording rock art in South Africa.
Victor Ellenberger was born in 1879 in Masitisi shelter in Lesotho. Both, Paul and Victor recorded more than 250 shelters in Lesotho.
