The site is well preserved. However, the relevant precautions should be practiced in order to protect the site from any damage.
Recommendations
Management should continue its practice of only allowing visitors to see the site only when accompanied by a responsible person. This person should ensure that the visitors do not touch the paintings at all.
The maximum number of people visiting the site should be restricted to five at a time for the lower site and no more than two people should enter the 'tunnels' of the upper site. Space is very limited in the upper site and there is a danger that people may brush against the painting and the rock surface if the site is overcrowded.
Another reason why the number of people visiting the site should be kept down is that people's feet stir dust, which then in turn settles on the rock face and the paintings and over a long period of time obscures the paintings. This means that the less the people in the site, the less dust stirred up. Large groups of people should then be broken down to smaller groups.
Employees and visitors should be informed about the National heritage Recourses Act, 1999 which states that:
No person may destroy, damage, deface, excavate, alter, remove from its original position, subdivide or change the planning status of any heritage site without a permit issued by the heritage resources authority responsible for the protection of such site.
Such a person, if successfully prosecuted, is liable to a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years or to both a fine and imprisonment.
Conservation needed: yes
